Pratt Institute

On November 21, 2025 17 architecture students along with faculty members Fred Bellaloum and Ann Dinh from Pratt Institute visited the Paul Rudolph Institute for Modern Architecture. Their visit offered an opportunity to engage with the Institute’s exhibitions and architecture. More information about Pratt Institute’s program can be found here.

Inhabited Worlds / Each Head, a World Exhibit

On November 13, 2025 the Institute hosted ‘Inhabited Worlds / Each Head, a World’ featuring the art of Felipe Bastos and Mariana Mascarenhas. The show was many different approaches to human identity, perception, and the construction of the world — whether on an intimate, subjective scale centered on individual experience, or on a collective level, exploring the interactions and exchanges that shape us as a community.

Mariana creates symbolic vessels to reconnect body and mind, expand the imagination, and nurture human vitality and Felipe’s photos capture the city as an organism in constant flux, where the monumental dissolves into the whole and attention to detail reveals the dynamics of relationships and objects.

Together, the works invite viewers to suspend habitual ways of seeing, allowing themselves to be carried into moments of surprise, contemplation, and discovery. Between faceless heads and fragments of the street, between the intimate and the collective, the exhibition is an invitation to reflect on how we perceive, feel, and imagine the worlds we inhabit, transforming the act of seeing into a gesture of poetic creation.

A very special thank-you to Cristiana Mascarenhas and Inplus for making the event possible.

Part of the collection was later shown at the Brazilian Consulate in New York as part of the project ‘arte brasileira no consulado’, on view from November 18 to January 30, 2026.

Architecture=Art Exhibit Opening

On July 02, 2025 the Institute celebrated the opening of ‘Architecture=Art: The Susan Grant Lewin Collection’

The show featured approximately 50 architectural presentation drawings by celebrated architects from around the world. The drawings—meticulously drawn by hand or digitally rendered—were from the personal collection of Susan Grant Lewin, a longtime advocate for contemporary architecture and design. Created as conceptual or presentation works, they reflect drawing as an essential part of the architect’s expressive process—less about documentation, more about persuasion and imagination. Among the architects represented were: Eileen Grey, Daniel Arsham, Frank Gehry, Jesse Reiser, Hani Rashid, Steven Holl,  Aldo Rossi, Michael Graves, James Wines, Stanley Tigerman, John Hejduk, and many others.

Thank you to everyone who came to experience Susan Grant Lewin’s exhibit. We’re especially thankful to the team whose work made the exhibition possible—from curatorial planning and installation to the many behind-the-scenes details that brought the show to life. Your support helps sustain our mission of preserving and sharing the legacy of modern architecture through exhibitions and public programs.

Grassroots Preservation Awards

Thank you to the Historic Districts Council!

On June 17, 2025 the Paul Rudolph Institute for Modern Architecture was recognized by the Historic Districts Council (HDC) with a 2025 Grassroots Preservation Award. The award was presented at HDC’s 25th anniversary Grassroots Preservation Awards ceremony at St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery in New York City.

The Historic Districts Council is New York City’s advocate for historic neighborhoods. Since 2000, HDC’s Grassroots Preservation Awards have celebrated the people and organizations doing the on-the-ground work of preservation—community groups, coalitions, public servants, and others who help protect the places that give New York its character.

For PRIMA, this recognition is especially meaningful because our mission is rooted in public access, education, and preservation advocacy—centered in the Modulightor Building, the only Paul Rudolph-designed space in NYC open to the public.

We were proud to be recognized alongside an inspiring group of 2025 honorees. To HDC, thank you for this honor—and for 25 years of championing preservation across all five boroughs.

And to everyone who has supported PRIMA’s work—our members, donors, volunteers, collaborators, speakers, and visitors—thank you. This award is a reminder that preservation is a collective effort, and we’re grateful to be part of a citywide community committed to safeguarding modern architecture for the future.

We look forward to continuing the work: expanding access to the archives, sharing new research, and advocating for threatened modern sites—one project, one program, and one open house at a time.
